in Christ alone i truly live

Lord i want to run away
from this wicked world that makes me stray

i hate this world, this life, this pain
all worthless vanity and selfish gain

all meaningless meaningless utterly meaningless
this world, this life, this pain all meaningless

for each day the sun rises and sets
and all the empty gain only leaves us with regrets

for what is wealth, money, power, and fame
all burned in the fire all just the same

as ashes to ashes and dust to dust
all is destroyed by moth and rust

and at the end of this life its all the same
no power, no wisdom, no glory or fame

for we live to die and die to live
with nothing left at the end to give

and all is gone no tears to cry
for by and by we live to die

but to live is Christ and die is gain
so in His presence i'll always remain

for this life is not worth living in comfort and rest
if it leads me to hell and it's eternal unrest

but my life my strength He will sustain
my salvation assured, His Spirit remains

so i die to live, my life i give
for in Christ alone i truly live
